GENERAL FAQ
What is Law Rocks?
You can read all about our mission and history on our site and even meet the people who make up the Law Rocks team. We have a PDF that breaks it down in one page. But the below video explains it all in just 40 seconds!
Are you a charity?
Yes. Law Rocks Inc. is recognized as a non-profit corporation and qualified charity under IRS 501(c) (3). The Law Rocks Foundation is a registered charity in England and Wales, number 1171131.
Can you represent me/be my lawyer/refer me to a lawyer?
While we work closely with the legal community, we are not a law firm nor do we have any attorneys on staff. We also do not give referrals for lawyers.
Can you donate to my charity?
The bands of legal professionals playing our event select the nonprofit they wish to fundraise for. Additionally, Law Rocks supports organizations that promote music education for kids, so if your organization works in that field feel free to drop us an email about your work.
PLAYING THE SHOW
Who can play Law Rocks?
Any band that meets the legal professional requirement and is committed to achieving the event’s fundraising minimum is eligible. Different cities have different legal professional requirements and fundraising minimums.
Who do you consider a legal professional?
Anyone who works for a law firm, a Court, a bar association, an in-house legal department, or is an arbitrator/mediator. If that doesn’t describe you but you work in the legal field, drop us a line!
You say “be a rock star for one night”, what does that mean?
We select top venues and historic stages for Law Rocks events. We also provide a shared backline for all bands to use, professional photography, and (at most events) professional videography. From a sound check the afternoon of the event to use of shared green rooms during the concert, we aim to give participants the rock star treatment as they help us achieve our ultimate goal - fundraising for incredible local nonprofits and music education organizations.
When will my band play?
The order of play is determined by fundraising totals two weeks prior to the event. The previous year’s winner will select their preferred spot in the order of play first, then any band sponsored at the Hall of Fame level. Next, the remaining band with the highest total fundraising will pick, and so on. Usually, but not always, the band with the lowest fundraising ends up playing last, with the middle slots filling up first.
How do tickets work, can our band have comps?
Of course band members get into the event for free, but as it is a charity event we do not offer any comps or free guest lists. We do provide the band’s selected charity pick with five complimentary tickets so they can come support the band, and to thank them for their work for the community.
How do we win?
Most Law Rocks events have the following scoring structure: the winner of the event will be the band with the highest total score. Scoring is divided into equal categories:
1/3 will be determined by each band’s donation total.
1/3 will be determined by each band's ticket and sponsorship total.
1/3 will be determined by a Rock Panel of Judges.
The Rock Panel of Judges will score each band in three categories: technical ability, creativity, and audience participation. In addition to an overall winner, the band with the highest Rock Panel score will win the Judges' Choice Award. Bands that do not meet the minimum in tickets and sponsorships will be ineligible to win either award and may also be ineligible to play the event in future years.
