Fundraising playbook

What has worked for bands before. Sponsorships come first — they cover the cost of the event, help fund the Music Matters Grant, and count for your band in the competition.

Secure sponsorships

Start now.

Your firm

Ask your firm to sponsor your band. They get promotional opportunities, great exposure, tickets and more. Promote the show as a team-bonding event and have the whole firm come out to support!

Service providers

Ask your firm's legal service providers — from ediscovery to insurance to practice management and legal billing software. They get exposure to a ton of potential clients, and many have a budget earmarked for exactly this.

Think outside the box

Any business that would appreciate exposure to our professional community is a good ask. Think tech, banking, real estate — even your local restaurant might be interested.

Get the word out

For when tickets and donations open.

  • Ask your firm to email the whole firm — every office — to donate to your band's charity and/or buy tickets.
  • Have every band member reach out to their own network, not just the band leader(s).
  • An old-fashioned email to family, friends and colleagues works wonders. No response? Don't be afraid to reach out again!
  • Local friends can come to the show; long-distance friends can still donate to your band's charity.
  • Tell your law school, college or high school buddies — and your band's fan club (Facebook page? email list?).
  • Post on LinkedIn, Instagram and Facebook — Law Rocks is most active on LinkedIn, so connect with us to like, share and repost.
  • Use the order of play deadline as a "ticking clock" reason to send an email.

“We proceeded down two tracks, one internally and the other externally. We worked with the leadership of our firm and internal marketing teams to promote the event and encourage donations, no matter how small — periodic email promotions, physical posters in the offices, even ROCKius ‘hoodies’ for donors at certain levels. We also circulated videos of the band to let everyone know how hard we had worked.”

Sponsorships

Sponsorships are the best place to start. Download the sponsorship package to attach to your outreach, or send the standalone commitment form.

Sponsorship & donation payment options

Law Rocks is recognized as a non-profit corporation and qualified charity under IRS 501(c)(3). This means your sponsorship is tax-deductible! The one exception is sponsorship levels which receive VIP tickets — in those cases, sponsorships will be tax-deductible less the cost of the food and beverage portion of the VIP tickets.

Donations to a band's nonprofit must initially go through Law Rocks in order to count towards the band's score. After the event, 100% of donations will be passed along to the nonprofits.

Law Rocks accepts the following forms of payment for sponsorships and donations:

  • Check
  • Credit card (fees apply)
  • Donor Advised Fund (donations only)
  • Wire / ACH

Feel free to reach out if you have any further questions.
