DC does not mess around! We had so many bands interested in playing this year, we expanded our DC event to two nights for the first time, and both sold out! We packed The Atlantis, with 14 bands of legal pros-turned-rock stars hitting the stage Thursday & Friday, September 10 & 11, 2026. Each band featured rock star legal professionals, with 28 firms represented overall. The 14 competing brought an eclectic mix of musical style to the stage along with standout fundraising efforts that set a new record for Law Rocks DC with over $252,550 raised!

DC bands absolutely crushed it this year. We had an unforgettable couple of nights rocking with all of you!

Larry & The LandLawyers is a rock band born from the legal world, featuring three attorneys from Walsh, Colucci, Lubeley & Walsh John Rinaldi, Mark Goetzman, Mike Kieffer, and longtime friend and client Larry Clark of Felice Development Group. The band regularly performs as part of Law Rocks, a global nonprofit concert series that brings together legal professionals to raise money for charitable causes.

Blending legal expertise with musical talent, Larry & The LandLawyers are proud to support organizations making a real impact in the community, including HomeAid Northern Virginia, which builds and renovates shelters for those in need. Known for their energy on stage and commitment off it, the band proves that lawyers can rock — and do good — at the same time.

Malicious Code is back, live, and dangerously unpatched. Last year, they tunneled into LawRocksDC, destroyed all defensive measures, and only left the stage after securing their first LawRocks win. This year, they’re back, louder and even less contained, ready to trigger another incident response across the entire venue. Inspired by the success of the band that has represented our San Francisco office for many years, we recently gathered a group of talented musicians to represent our DC office as the Morgan Lewis Band. Our members come from a wide variety of musical backgrounds (and practice areas), and as a band we play an equally wide variety of musical genres spanning five decades, including everything from blues and classic rock to prog rock, indie, and pop. We’re looking forward to playing at the 11th Annual Law Rocks in DC for D.C. Central Kitchen on Thursday, September 10!

Mostly Whiskey is a stripped-down, two-piece rock outfit that proves you don't actually need a bass player if you turn the guitar amp up loud enough. By day, both members are telecommunications attorneys navigating complex regulatory frameworks on behalf of their clients; by night, they channel their remaining energy into raw, driving Americana rock. They are incredibly excited to play Law Rocks again this year, mostly because it gets them out of the office.

Rocking for Blood Cancer United

Night Work consists of attorneys from the Washington, DC office of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, joined by powerhouse vocalist Lindsey Cloud of KNP Communications and Catholic University School of Law. The band's name traces back to firm founder Bob Strauss, who famously told a client: “You’ve given us your night work; now can we have your day work?”

Since then, Night Work has become a Law Rocks favorite, earning Best Overall Band in 2024 and the Judge's Choice Award in 2025. Drawing inspiration from the best of the '70s, '80s, and '90s, the band delivers a high-energy mix of crowd favorites, deep cuts, and the occasional surprise.

Featuring the vocal trio of Matt Nicely, Lindsey Cloud, and J.R. Molm, along with Steve Kho on keys, Brian Pomper on bass, Scott Alberino on drums, and Tom McCarthy on guitar, Night Work blends big vocals, tight musicianship, and just enough lawyerly competitiveness to keep things interesting.

The result is a show built for singing along, turning up the volume, and proving that legal briefs aren't the only things these lawyers know how to deliver.

The Precedents are an all-lawyer band with no ringers.  They have been playing at charity events for more than 20 years.  The band features legal talent from Willkie Farr & Gallagher, Interactive Brokers, McGuire Woods, Miller Friel, the DOJ Appellate Division, and the International Center for Not-for-Profit Law.  The Precedents are the band that all other lawyer bands must follow.

The Billables are six attorneys and legal professionals from White & Case LLP's Washington DC office who happen to rock. The band – Blair Trahan on vocals, Alec Albright and Jay Campbell on guitar, Jacob Stowell on keys, Isaac Webb on bass, and Matt Solomon on drums – made their live debut at the Black Cat in June 2026, bringing a high-energy mix of 80s-to-2000s rock and pop to the DC stage. Joel Bernstein

Joel is a five-time veteran performer of Law Rocks DC, and founding member of 2022 Winners, Harmful Interference. He has played bass for several cover bands in and around the DC area for the past 20 years. By popular acclaim and local statute, he is forbidden from singing.

In real life, Joel is Vice President and Head of US Public Policy and Government Affairs for telecommunications numbering and security company, Somos. He regrets that he is not with Sonos, so he can’t get you a good deal on speakers. While not the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame or Cooperstown, Joel has been inducted into the Communications Fraud Control Association Hall of Fame for his work on curbing fraud in the Toll-Free Industry.

Judge - Evan Moses

Evan is a trademark lawyer, the founder of the local community concert series "Live in Rose Park," and most notably, a four-time Law Rocks veteran and former Judge’s Choice award winner with his band Rock Creek Kings. Originally from Montreal, Canada, Evan is of-counsel to the Boutique IP and litigation law firms the Concept Law Group and FL Patel Law on trademark, patent and copyright prosecution and litigation matters and holds an LL.M. in intellectual property law from the George Washington University School of Law. His band’s newest single FOOL was just released on all platforms and you may just recognize him from the cover of the Washington Post’s Weekend Section.

A lifelong music fan, Lulu has enjoyed listening to and attending concerts featuring artists and bands spanning every era and genre from classic rock to Christian hip-hop.

Inspired by the mission and purpose of Law Rocks, Lulu is thrilled to support such an incredible nonprofit organization. Experiencing the remarkable musical talent within the legal community in cities like New York, Los Angeles, and DC, has been an absolute joy and privilege.

What began as a journey as a sponsor and volunteer has now evolved into the honor of serving as a judge. Through Law Rocks, Lulu is grateful for the opportunity to give back and support local communities in major cities across the country.

Judge - Mazi Mutafa
Judge - Mazi Mutafa

Mazi Mutafa is the founding Executive Director of Words Beats & Life, a hip-hop non-profit established in Washington D.C in 2002. Mr. Mutafa received his Bachelor’s degree in African American studies from the University of Maryland and  became a Brother of Phi BetaSigma Fraternity. He has been a guest lecturer at the University of Maryland, Georgetown University, and George Washington University and, in 2019, was an adjunct professor at American University, co-teaching a course about international hip-hop, called “Whose Hip-Hop Is It?”

As an expert in the fields of Muslimness, Hip-Hop culture, public art and arts education, creative employment, cultural diplomacy, and centering marginalized voices, Mr. Mutafa has made numerous media appearances. They have included all network TV stations in Washington, as well as N.P.R. and other local public radio outlets, plus the Washington Post, Washington City Paper, Kids Post Washington, East of the River and Washington Times.

He contributed a chapter to the Handbook of Research on Black Males, published by Michigan State University Press and an interview with Mazi is included in The Hip-Hop Mindset: A Professional Practice on Rutledge Press. Mr. Mutafa is also the host of a hip-hop show called “Live @ 5,” heard quarterly on WPFW 89.3 FM, featuring performances and interviews with MC’s, poets, DJ’s, producers, and vocalists. Mr. Mutafa is also the host of a poetry and activism show called “Something to Say” every Tuesday on WPFW 89.3 FM, featuring performances and interviews with poets, artists, activists and leaders.

Stephen “Dusty” Barksdale is a Washington, D.C.-native entertainment executive, entrepreneur, recording artist, creative director, and cultural advocate whose career has been rooted in music, community, and the continued evolution of D.C. go-go.

As the director of City Dreamz Entertainment LLC and founder and lead talker of Tru Expressionz Go-Go Band, Dusty has spent more than two decades building a career that bridges live music, entertainment, visual media, entrepreneurship, youth engagement, and cultural advocacy.

Dusty began his journey as a teenager in Washington, D.C., when he helped launch Tru Expressionz in 2005. What started as a youth-driven go-go band grew into a longstanding D.C. music institution, with Dusty serving as one of its primary creative forces and voices. From grassroots performances and self-promoted shows to recording projects and performances outside of the DMV, Tru Expressionz has remained committed to carrying the sound and energy of Washington, D.C. to new audiences.

The band's recording journey began with Welcome to the Go Go in 2007 and continued through a growing catalog of original and live projects, including Royalty (Rise of the Finest), “the Finest” Certified (Well Worth the Wait), Shine Time, Vol. 1, Shine Time, Vol. 2, Stay Tru (Summer 2017), Tru Expressionz Greatest Hits, and 6 Rings. The group has continued recording and releasing new material, demonstrating Barksdale's commitment to keeping the band and its sound relevant across generations.

Tru Expressionz's longevity has also translated into major performance opportunities throughout the DMV and beyond. The band has performed on prominent stages throughout Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia, as well as traveled to other markets to introduce audiences to the energy of D.C. go-go. Among its notable D.C. performances was an appearance at Echostage, placing Tru Expressionz alongside some of the region's most recognized go-go talent on one of Washington's premier entertainment stages.

In 2026, Tru Expressionz reached another important career milestone with a nomination for the 2026 Go-Go Awards, recognizing the band's continued contribution to the genre and its staying power within Washington's evolving go-go landscape.

For Barksdale, however, the importance of go-go extends far beyond performing onstage. He has consistently viewed the culture as a vehicle for community connection, youth engagement, and positive experiences.

That philosophy was on full display when Tru Expressionz performed at Sandlot Uptown in Northwest Washington, D.C., where Tru Expresionnz partnered with Gale Bean, actress known for her work on hit TV show Snowfall, P-Valley and its spinoff The Drop, to organize a back-to-school youth event. The collaboration brought together entertainment, community, and education, giving young people an opportunity to enjoy a live go-go experience while celebrating the beginning of a new school year. The event reflected Dusty’s belief that go-go can be more than a soundtrack—it can be a tool for bringing young people together and creating positive memories around D.C. culture.

That commitment to community has been a recurring theme throughout his career. Whether performing for audiences, creating opportunities for emerging artists, producing events, or using his media platform to document the people and culture around him, Dusty has continued to find ways to connect entertainment with community.

His entrepreneurial vision expanded through City Dreamz Entertainment LLC, transforming the company into a broader creative platform encompassing entertainment, event coverage, photography, videography, interviews, artist development, promotion, and digital media. Through City Dreamz, Dusty has been able to work behind the camera as well as in front of it, documenting artists, entertainers, athletes, and personalities from Washington and beyond.

Among City Dreamz Entertainment's notable videography and interview credits are conversations and media work involving nationally recognized artists and entertainers including Kevin Gates, Grammy award winning Artist Monica, Tory Lanez, Lightshow, Fat Trel, and others. These credits demonstrate the reach of Dusty's creative work beyond the go-go scene and into the broader hip-hop, R&B, and entertainment industries.

His work has also earned recognition from major Washington media outlets. Dusty has been featured in The Washington Post, The Washington Informer, and other media outlets, particularly in connection with his work in entertainment and Washington's go-go culture. His visibility in the local press has helped establish him not only as a performer, but as a voice within the larger conversation surrounding the preservation, growth, and future of D.C. music.

Dusty’s voice became particularly prominent during the #DontMuteDC movement in 2019, when Washington's go-go community mobilized to protect the music and the cultural spaces where it thrives. As the founder and frontman of Tru Expressionz, Dusty was among the artists publicly advocating for go-go and emphasizing the importance of creating more opportunities for the genre rather than allowing it to become restricted to fewer and fewer spaces.

For Dusty, advocacy and entrepreneurship have always gone hand in hand. His approach has been to not only talk about opportunities for artists, but to build platforms that create them.

That philosophy extends into Stay Tru Apparel, a lifestyle and creative extension of the Tru Expressionz and City Dreamz identity. Stay Tru represents the same principles that have guided Dusty’s career: authenticity, individuality, creativity, and remaining connected to one's roots while continuing to evolve.

Across music, media, fashion, and live entertainment, he has built a career around the idea of staying true to the culture while finding new ways to present it.

His work as a recording artist has also provided a platform for social commentary. Tru Expressionz material has addressed personal experiences, community issues, violence, loss, and social injustice, demonstrating that their music is not solely about entertainment. It is also a reflection of the experiences and realities of the communities that have shaped the band members.

More than 20 years after founding Tru Expressionz, Dusty’s continues to create. The band's catalog continues to grow with new releases and live performances, while City Dreamz Entertainment continues to expand its work across music, video, events, and creative media.

What makes Stephen “Dusty” Barksdale's career distinctive is the evolution of his role. He began as a young D.C. go-go artist with a microphone and a vision. He became a bandleader, recording artist, entrepreneur, entertainment executive, videographer, event producer, community organizer, and advocate for Washington's musical heritage.

His story is one of longevity, independence, creativity, and cultural commitment.

From building Tru Expressionz as a teenager, releasing multiple recording projects, taking D.C. go-go to audiences outside the region, earning a 2026 Go-Go Awards nomination, performing major D.C. stages, producing media featuring nationally recognized artists, receiving coverage from major Washington publications, partnering with entertainment professionals for youth-focused events, and continuing to create new opportunities through City Dreamz Entertainment and Stay Tru Apparel—Dusty has consistently found ways to turn his passion for D.C. culture into action.

At the 11th Annual Law Rocks Washington, D.C., “Dusty” brings that history to the stage as an artist, entrepreneur, and community-minded creative who has spent more than two decades helping keep Washington's expression TRU.

For Dusty, the mission is bigger than one band, one company, or one performance. It is about building platforms, creating opportunities, supporting artists, engaging young people, documenting culture, and making sure the sound and spirit of Washington, D.C. continue to reach the next generation.

Faith “Dutchie Dutch” Roberts, Esq. is an artist and attorney originally from Washington DC and currently living in Los Angeles. A small business owner and independent artist, Faith has published two EPs, and four albums in addition to writing and performing her music, trademarking and distributing merchandise, and providing consultation services to entrepreneurs and independent artists.  

Faith has a long history in the music business – her parents’ record company MarSil Productions created and nationally distributed soul music compilations, and she began performing in GoGo bands at age 15 as a bassist. Faith attended DC Public Schools, graduated Trinity Washington University magna cum laude, and earned her law degree from the University of the District of Columbia’s David A. Clarke School of Law. 

 Faith has been a member of the DC Bar since 2021 and is pursuing certification as registered in-house counsel in California and New York as she continues her work serving as a passionate advocate for entertainers and entrepreneurs. She currently serves as a General Attorney for the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Office of Capital Access and is detailed to the Office of General Counsel for disaster loan assistance duties and litigation.

Zeke Roeser
Zeke Roeser

Zeke Roeser is a trial lawyer and the principal of Roeser Law Firm, a personal injury practice in Washington, DC.  He litigates primarily in DC and Maryland, and has successfully represented thousands of DC-area residents. 

Mr. Roeser is an occasional songwriter whose work has charted on the Billboard 200 and the national charts of the UK, Scotland, France, Germany, Belgium, Sweden, Finland, and Japan.  He is a student of Shaolin Hung Fut Kung Fu and an initiate of the mysterious Federalist Society.

Alex Silverbook
Alex Silverbook

Alex Silverbook is an accomplished music educator, saxophonist, and advocate for music education. Originally from Philadelphia, PA, he earned his degree in Music Education from The Pennsylvania State University in 2000 and later received a Master of Music Education from the University of Maryland.

Mr. Silverbook has served as the Instrumental Music Director at Sherwood High School in Montgomery County Public Schools since 2000, where he teaches Concert and Symphonic bands, Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, and Music Technology. He also directs the school’s Pep Band, Musical Pit Orchestra, and annual Rock n Roll Revival production. In addition, he has directed county and honors ensembles, including the Montgomery County Junior Honors Jazz Ensemble.

Mr. Silverbook teaches Jazz Improvisation each summer at the University of Maryland’s Terrapin Music Camp and serves as Director and Teacher at the FAME - Foundation for the Advancement of Music & Education Summer Music Program. 

In recognition of his contributions to Jazz and Music Education, he received the 2026 Ronnie Wells Jazz Service Award at the Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival.
