$129,347 fundraised, a new record for Houston!

Winner & Judges’ Choice Award: Pro Hac Vice rocking for Chance for Hope Foundation with legal talent from Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP, Enterprise Products Partners, L.P., The Friedkin Group, The Law Office of Travis W. Earp PLLC, and Locke Lord LLP

The 2nd Annual Law Rocks Houston was epic! Five talented bands rocked the stage, raising a whopping $129,000 (more than five times the 2019 total). Extreme fundraising heights were reached, but reigning champions Pro Hac Vice still managed to hold onto their title and take home the win.

From the sold-out VIP to the line at the merch table, the crowd was ready to party, dance, and cheer on their favorite bands. The vibe was electric as each band delivered a high-energy set - as well as significant funds for their chosen local nonprofit organizations!

The Contract Killers

Rocking for Belong Kitchen

The Contract Killers were formed in the midst of the Covid-19 global pandemic in 2019. Brought together by a love of music, lack of talent and their WAGs' collective desire to get them out of the house at least one night each week during lockdown, they began practicing and forged a common goal to become the most recognizable band in the world. Or at least in Latham & Watkins' Houston office. The Contract Killers are Tim Fenn (guitar, mandolin, keyboards, vocals, hair), Craig Kornreich (drums, wardrobe), Bryan Ryan (guitar, bass, vocals, swag), Jordan Hudson (bass, guitar, purveyor of fine instruments) and Michael King (guitar, vocals, left-handed scissors). TCK will be joined for Law Rocks by special guests Austin Sheehy and Ben Marek.

A bunch of family men with too many projects, this band got started as a way to relax and have fun with our own favorite songs. None of us are pros but we all play, and when we get together it just fits. Rock to our collection of classics that don’t bend to a genre but which you’ll know and love. Help us support The Woods Project, a unique and fantastic endeavor that gets kids out of the computer and into nature! We look forward to rocking the house at White Oak and to sharing our fun with you at Law Rocks 2022!

Rocking for the Chance for Hope Foundation

Winners of the inaugural Law Rocks Houston event and Judge’s Choice Award in 2019, Pro Hac Vice is reuniting to bring the hits from the most totally awesome era of music. It’s gonna be rad! For this year’s event, the band will once again be raising money for the Chance for Hope Foundation, a local charity providing support services for children with cancer and their families, and grant funding for pediatric cancer research. Featuring attorneys from five separate organizations, Pro Hac Vice is: Mario Barrientos (bass, vocals), Scott Davidson (lead vocals, synth, guitar), Travis Earp (guitar, vocals), John Goodgame (guitar, vocals), Charlie San Miguel (drums/percussion), and special guest Kurt Krolikowski (vocals).

Host, Helen Jenkins

Helen B Jenkins is Executive Vice President Emeritus and Professor of Law in Wills, Trusts, Estates and Guardianships at South Texas College of Law Houston, where she has also served as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. She received her JD from University of Houston Law Center, a Masters in Music Education from Howard University and a Bachelor of Music from Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins Institute. She is the author of the textbook, Administration of Estates and Guardianships in Texas. Dean Jenkins has been the recipient of many community-based awards for her dedication to teaching and her commitment to increasing the numbers of attorneys seeking positions in law teaching throughout the nation. Jenkins is a founding member and has been a principal performer in 14 shows by Night Court, an all-lawyer musical theater group, which has raised over a million dollars for local legal service organizations addressing the under-served. Jenkins is a founding member of the Downtown Group, an organization of African American female attorneys in Houston. She is the National Anthem soloist for all South Texas graduations and has performed at Minute Maid park.

Rock Judge, Shakeatha Davis

Shakeatha Davis is an attorney, speaker, and multi-passionate entrepreneur. She currently serves as Owner and Principal Attorney for the minority woman owned law firm, the S. Davis Law Group PLLC and Owner of ICreate Coworking Business Hub™.

Her practice areas include Business Law, Intellectual Property and Entertainment Law. Ms. Davis is an expert at assisting small business owners with business advisement and development which she is extremely passionate about. In addition to running a full time law practice, Attorney Davis hosts workshops and classes where she teaches business law.

Shakeatha recently partnered with the WBEA-Women’s Business Center (WBC) as a mastermind legal counselor. Her philanthropic efforts include being a mentor with Station Houston and volunteer attorney for the Texas CBAR.

Prior to opening her legal practice, Ms. Davis worked for the legal department of BP America, and Judicial Intern for both Chief Bankruptcy Judge Jeff Bohm and Judge Kenneth Hoyt. She also was selected for the Presidential Management Fellow Finalist Class of 2013. Ms. Davis earned her Juris Doctor, cum laude from Thurgood Marshall School of Law and her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and English from Xavier University of Louisiana.

Ms. Davis has been a member of in the Top 40 Under 40 for National Black Lawyers and Top 40 Under 40 in Business for the Women’s Association of Attorneys in Business Law for the past two years. She also was recently appointed Vice Chair of the Copyright and Social Media Committee for the American Bar Association.

As she is a multi-passionate entrepreneur, she also enjoys being a co-owner of the Davis Artist Development Center which is an artist development center located in Houston, TX for entertainment artists.

Lastly, Attorney Davis is a member of the Texas State Bar, American Bar Association, Houston Bar Association, Houston Intellectual Property Lawyers Association and the Houston Lawyers Association.

Rock Judge, Michael Mikulka

Engineer, producer, and studio owner, Michael Mikulka has been fortunate to be able to do what he loves as his career, and do it successfully for over 36 years. Michael is a 30-year Grammy member/voter, has had his songs recorded by major label artists, and has earned 1 platinum and 3 gold records.

He ran his own successful music studio complex (recording, mastering, rehearsal, live sound) in the highly competitive Southern California music scene for over 20 years before relocating to Houston.

He is currently the owner of LUCKY RUN STUDIO, arguably the busiest and one of most prestigious recording studio facilities in the Houston area, where they have produced recordings for more than a dozen Grammy-winning and Grammy-nominated artists, as well as countless unsigned acts, in and around Houston.

Michael has been fortunate to work with such artists (in California and Texas) as Ambrosia, Beck, Berlin, BB King Band, Bill Medley, Clark Sisters, Lady Gaga (Super Bowl Show), Leon Russell, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sting, Tiffany, Tito Jackson (Jackson 5), Toby Keith, and Willie Nelson.

Rock Judge, Al Staehely

Al Staehely is an entertainment lawyer based in Houston, Texas. He has specialized in legal matters pertaining to the music and film industries since 1979.His clients include musicians, record labels, music publishing companies, and distribution companies. He handles various matters related to recording, publishing, sub-publishing, and licensing both domestically and internationally.

Al is also a musician whose roots in the Austin music scene combined with his experience writing and collaborating with artists in Los Angeles (most notably as front man in the psychedelic rock band Spirit) have allowed him to create a sound all his own. Seamlessly blending classic rock, soulful blues with a commanding stage presence, Al is just at home playing intimate solo shows with an acoustic guitar on his knee as he is taking center stage at a rock show. Al's engaging lyrics and creative melodies have peaked the interest of other artists who have recorded his songs- Keith Moon (The Who), Marty Balin (Jefferson Airplane), Peter Cox (Go West), The Nick Gravenites/John Cipollina Band, as well as performers from his own back yard, most recently Houston R&B vocalist Annika Chambers.
