Third Annual Law Rocks New York City Sets a New Record
The yearly event continues to grow in size, popularity, and total fundraising.

New York – Law Rocks, the nonprofit organization that hosts a world tour of fundraising concerts starring bands of legal professionals, presented the Third Annual Law Rocks New York City on Thursday, November 10. Eight bands of musically talented legal professionals representing ten law firms rocked out for charity at the historic Gramercy Theatre. The event was a huge success, selling out early and breaking the Law Rocks’ organization fundraising record, surpassing $153,000.

Competition was stiff as two-time winner, The Meltones of Greenberg Traurig battled against returning and new bands. The winning band was selected by four factors: donations raised, tickets and sponsorships, audience favorite, and Rock Panel of Judges score. Totals climbed in the days before the event, tightening the competition, and in the end The Meltones of Greenberg Traurig won the night for the third straight year, raising over 32K for BOOM!Health. Giving them a run for their money on every front was The Objections, of Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP and Susman Godfrey, who raised over $25,000 for Advocates for Children of New York and came in second.

The Judges' Choice Award, honoring the band awarded the best marks from the Rock Panel of Judges, went to The Endless Thread of the Office of the Bronx District Attorney and private practice. The Rock Panel included Marc Milano, General Counsel at BB&T and lead singer and rhythm guitar player with The Mulligans, a classic rock band; Alan Tilles, telecommunications and entertainment attorney with Shulman Rogers Gandal Pordy & Ecker, P.A., lifelong musician, as well as Law Rocks Washington DC 2015 champion; Victor Bushell, founding member of Bushell Sovak Ozer & Gulmi LLP and an avid musician; and Andrew Tavel, longtime entertainment lawyer and founder at Tavel & Shulman, P.C.

The concert featured legal professionals from Davis & Gilbert LLP; Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP; Debevoise & Plimpton LLP; Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer US LLP; Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP; Greenberg Traurig LLP; Locke Lord LLP; Office of the Bronx District Attorney; Susman Godfrey LLP; Walkers Global; White & Case LLP; and private practice.

“We are overjoyed at the success of our third New York event,” says Law Rocks Director of Marketing and Development, Omi Crawford. “The excitement at the Gramercy was contagious and every band performed a great set of diverse, high-energy numbers.” The eight participating bands fundraised to benefit area charities Advocates for Children of New York, amfAR, BOOM!Health, City Harvest, Connecticut Veterans Legal Center, Her Justice, Kid's Cafe of Community Food Bank of New Jersey, and

The Partnership for the Homeless. A representative from each organization appeared at the event to introduce the bands and share a bit about the work of the nonprofit.

In addition to presenting Hall of Fame sponsor, Greenberg Traurig LLP, the event was made possible by Headliner sponsor KLS Professional Advisors Group. Platinum sponsors were Debevoise & Plimpton LLP and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer US LLP. Additional sponsors were Locke Lord LLP, Ganfer & Shore LLP, and Secretariat International.

After seeing success from the first concert in London 2009, Law Rocks brought the event to the United States in 2012. “We are always excited to return to New York,” Ted Scott, co-founder of Law Rocks USA, commented. “From the inaugural year we’ve been impressed with the enthusiasm and talent of the bands here.”

As an organization, Law Rocks Global has raised over $2,000,000 for various nonprofits across the world.
