Judges’ Choice Award Winner: The Objections of Davis Polk for Advocates for Children of New York

What a night! Thank you for coming out to the Gramercy and helping make the 7th Law Rocks NYC such a success!

After three long years, we finally made our return to the Gramercy Theatre, where seven bands of legal rock stars battled it out for local nonprofits. The competition was fierce, the sets were awesome, and the Gramercy Theatre was packed with fans.

The evening raised over $166K and ended with longtime competitors The Meltones and The Objections in a dead heat! With combined total fundraising as the tiebreaker, a 7th straight win went to The Meltones of Greenberg Traurig who raised over $74,000! But The Objections of Davis Polk did not leave empty handed, taking home the coveted Judges' Choice Award.

Our amazing host, Maria Milito of Q104.3, fueled the audience for a great show and set the pace for an amazing night, encouraging fans to donate and helping to keep funds coming in through the night.

Our first competing band, Willy and the Halestormers of WilmerHale and Fried Frank, amped up the energy with pop hits and a "Born to Run" cover that would make The Boss proud.

The Objections of Davis Polk had the audience dancing and singing along to pop hits like "Good 4 You" and Fight Song, but kept the rock alive with songs by the Eagles and The White Stripes.

The Meltones of Greenberg Traurig, pumped up their fans with a trio of singers crushing rock hits by Red Hot Chili Peppers and Thin Lizzy and a standout cover of "Shut Up and Dance".

REDACTED of Cowan, DeBaets, Abrahams & Sheppard brought headliner energy with powerhouse vocals covering songs by Melissa Etheridge, The Cranberries, and Alanis Morissette while also keeping it fun with a Saved by The Bell / Friends mashup.

ipso facto of Quinn Emanuel and Euclid Transactional had a bluesy energy covering classic rock hits like "Feeling Alright" and "Brown Eyed Girl" and featured superb guitar skills.

The night ended with Mistrial of White & Case and Torys taking us to the 70s and back with hits by Eddie Money, The Cars, and fan-favorite "Take Me Out" by Franz Ferdinand.

An excellent night of talent with some extraordinary fundraising efforts! The Rock Panel of Judges did not have an easy job. The Panel included Eli Northrup, former member of the NYC-based band, “Pants Velour” and attorney with the Bronx Defenders; Sarah Feingold, Brooklyn-based startup attorney, professor and playwright; and Wendy LaManque, attorney and Director of Organizational Compliance & Eastern Counsel for the American Guild of Musical Artist.

The band is back in town! Global law firm Greenberg Traurig is excited to have its house band, The Meltones, back gracing the stage at Gramercy Theatre. The Meltones, named after a firm founder Mel Greenberg, have been rocking in various incarnations since the mid-1980s, and are proud to be six-time Law Rocks NYC Champions, with their sights set on number seven! The Meltones have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for local non-profits and couldn’t be more thrilled to play for The Veteran Advocacy Project this year. The Meltones are comprised of 10 bandmembers: On guitar, Co-Chair of Global Real Estate Practice, Stephen Rabinowitz; Miami Real Estate Shareholder, Burt Bruton; and Philadelphia Health Care & FDA Shareholder, Mark Mattioli; On keyboard, Albany Government Law & Policy Shareholder, Christopher A. Rocking for The Scarlett Fund

Willy C. Picker cut his teeth playing country and blues in small clubs along the banks of the Potomac. He had a loyal following, but was never able to break into the big time until he joined up with a brash band of Boston rockers—the Hale Stormers. Together, Willy and the Hale Stormers deliver an energetic and eclectic mix of rock and R&B. They are excited to return to the Law Rocks stage, and equally excited to raise money for the Scarlett Fund, which helps fund groundbreaking pediatric cancer research.

Host - Maria Milito

Maria Milito has been heard on the New York radio and television airwaves for over 25 years. Whether you’re in the Tri-State area listening to Q104.3, New York’s Classic Rock Station or traveling nationwide, one might find it difficult to escape her signature voice as a host on iHeartMedia’s Classic Rock network—from Spokane WA to Allentown PA. Maria also adds author to her list of credits with the publishing of “Clarice and Friends...How They Helped Mend the Hole in My Heart,” a collection of emails from her listeners sent to her when her beloved dog Clarice passed away. Rock Judge - Eli Northrup

Eli Northrup has been working at the Bronx Defenders since 2015 where he handles both felony and misdemeanor cases and is a member of the Policy Team. In 2022, after working on the campaign for marijuana justice in New York State for a number of years, he helped to launch The Bronx Cannabis Hub, a resource for New Yorkers interested in applying for licenses with legal support and education to enable them to build generational wealth long denied by the failed War on Drugs. Prior to joining the Bronx Defenders, Eli served as an E. Barrett Prettyman Fellow in the Criminal Defense and Prisoner Advocacy Clinic at Georgetown Law School, handling misdemeanor and felony cases in Washington D.C. Superior Court and supervising third-year law students. He attended Cornell University and graduated from New York University School of Law. Eli was a member of the NYC-based band “Pants Velour” (Tommy Boy Records) for over a decade. The group performed all over the east coast, was featured on the X-Factor, and are perhaps best known for their appearance in the Dial 7 Car Service commercials.

Rock Judge - Sarah Feingold

Sarah is a Brooklyn-based playwright, professor, jeweler, startup attorney (formerly Etsy and Vroom), investor, board member, speaker, and mom. She won The New York Law Journal’s 2018 General Counsel Impact Award and created America’s Ugliest Necklace. Sarah’s worlds collide in her hilarious new show, Dirty Legal Secrets.

Rock Judge - Wendy LaManque

Wendy LaManque is thrilled to be returning for her fourth year as a Law Rocks Judge!

Wendy is Director of Organizational Compliance & Eastern Counsel for the American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA), the labor union representing the workers who create professional ballet, opera and choral music across the country. Prior to serving as counsel to AGMA, Wendy spent six years in a law firm here in New York City representing major entertainment unions and other labor organizations.

Wendy is also a proud member of The Whistles, a quirky indie folk duo performing and recording music that spans the entire universe of genres with her husband, Terrence Brennan (formerly of Cousin Earth). In 2022, Wendy was promoted to Chief Party Officer at the Party Farm in Roscoe, NY, Wendy and Terry’s boutique recording studio in the Catskills. When not lawyering, playing music, hosting recording clients, or judging battles of bands, Wendy can be found in her garden, bowling at the Party Farm's on-site bowling alley, or attempting to train her delightfully unruly dog, Pepper.
