Five Fun Facts about the Miami Beach Bandshell

On November 10, Law Rocks is returning to Florida for the Second Annual Law Rocks Miami. We are so excited to return not only to this great city, but also to a great venue. The Miami Beach Bandshell is not your ordinary rock theater— and we think the outdoor amphitheater adds so much to the magical vibe of this great show. Here are 5 fun facts about the Miami Beach Bandshell:

1) The bandshell was designed in 1961 by architect Norman Giller. It is an example of the MiMo style, or Miami Modernist architecture, which developed in South Florida in the post-war period and showcases a playful take on futurism.

2) Over the years, the venue has gone by many names. It was originally known as The North Shore Community Center and later as North Beach Bandshell. In 2021, the National Register of Historic Places designated it as a local historic site.

3) Although the venue fell into disrepair in the 1980s-90s, it was revitalized in 2009 and underwent modernizing rehabilitation. It is currently managed by the Rhythm Foundation, a non-profit cultural organization that focuses on diversifying Miami’s live music scene.

4) While the Bandshell is a great place to hear live music, it’s a multipurpose venue! It will occasionally turn into a roller rink for a night, where attendees can roller skate to DJ sets.

5) The Bandshell won Time Out Miami’s  “Sustainable Venue of The Year” award in 2021, and for good reason. The venue has eliminated straws and plastic cups, and has free water bottle refill stations; all bottled water is sold in aluminum cans. The canopy in the middle of the venue (added in the remodel to protect from sun and rain) is made from a special photovoltaic fabric that uses solar power to generate its lights!

Come join us on November 10 for our return to the Miami Beach Bandshell! Tickets for the 2nd Annual Law Rocks Miami will go on sale September 15, 2023 at 12:00pm.
