Friday Winner: Privileged Communications of Perkins Coie for City of Hope
Friday Judges’ Choice Award: Whisky Kick of Michael Sullivan & Associates for Olive Crest
Saturday Winner & Judges’ Choice Award: The JDRF Troubadours of Wolf Greenfield for JDRF
It's been one week since Law Rocks LA smashed records and rocked the Whisky and we are still on cloud nine! Eleven bands of rock star legal professionals took the Whisky stage this past weekend for the 11th Annual Law Rock Los Angeles and raised over $228,000, a new record for a Law Rocks event!
The talent of the bands was undeniable, with several attendees remarking that they didn't envy the Judges! Both nights featured incredible performances and surprise moments...
NIGHT ONE: FRIDAY, APRIL 29
Friday night opened with Side Hustle, who rocked their way through popular songs, spanning multiple genres, and pumped up the crowd for an epic show.
The Doughboys brought their mix of original lyrics to popular songs, adding extra flair with the addition of a cello and bassoon, but it was their enchanting duet of "Shallow" by Lady GaGa and Bradley Cooper that received the most praise.
Castle of Rock played an expertly blended set of rock, soul and funk and had stage presence for days. With hits by Beyonce, Heart, and Stevie Nicks, they had the audience cheering and dancing.
Privileged Communications was next and we knew we were in for a great time as the lead singer took the stage with his hair dyed blue and yellow in honor of Ukraine. They rocked the crowd with songs by The Rolling Stones and INXS and kept to tradition, playing a song by The Doors in honor of the band’s tenure as a house band for the Whisky A-Go-Go.
The final band of the night, newcomer Whisky Kick, brought major rock and roll energy playing a set full of iconic rockers like Tom Petty, Nirvana and the Foo Fighters. Their rendition of “Jump” had the audience and their lead guitarist leaping in the air. This excitement extended to our Rock Panel of Judges who awarded them the Judges' Choice award.
While Whisky Kick and the other bands amped up the competition, it was Privileged Communications who took home the overall Championship scoring the highest total points for three categories.
NIGHT TWO: SATURDAY, APRIL 30
Saturday night opened with newcomer, The Grind. Hits by U2 and Bon Jovi roused the crowd, but the shining moment was the Trans Chorus of Los Angeles joining the band for two powerful songs, Don't Stop Believing and Lean on Love.
Jimmy's Brother was next, delivering a high-energy set of crowd-pleasing tunes. Punk and alt rock hits by the Pixies, Oasis, and The Killers had the fans singing along.
Several Dudes, a band reunited after the tragic loss of one of their former bandmates, played an entire set of original feel-good jams in honor of their departed friend.
The JDRF Troubadours, breaking the fundraising record for a single band, energized the audience with popular alternative rock hits paired with beautiful vocal harmonies that captivated the crowd.
Not to be outdone on vocals, Run BMC opened with attention-grabbing harmonies with the Everly Brothers’, "When Will I Be Loved" followed by memorable ballads by Aretha Franklin and Amy Winehouse that proved a perfect match for the lead singer's soulful voice.
Our final band of the night, Down by Law was the perfect end for the evening. Opening their set with a Foo Fighters' tribute to the late Taylor Hawkins, the lead singer's voice quickly transported fans to the era of Mama Cass with her powerful, hearty vocals taking on Led Zeppelin, The Black Crowes and more.
Amazing fundraising efforts were made by all, but it was The JDRF Troubadours who took home the overall championship and Judges' Choice on Saturday night.

With T1D, a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin—a hormone essential to turning food into energy. The daily life of someone with T1D brings a multitude of challenges, including insulin injections that need to be carefully balanced with eating and activity, disruptive glucose monitoring, sleepless nights—and wishing for a tomorrow where this struggle doesn’t exist. Living with T1D means there are no days off and there is no cure. But there is hope. Your generosity will help JDRF fund life-changing breakthroughs to remove the incredible daily burden of this disease—until it no longer exists. Please support The JDRF Troubadours’ fundraiser by making a donation today! The band wishes to thank our generous sponsors this year, which are: Wolf Greenfield, Wheeler Bio, NextWave Electrical Contractors, Alloy Therapeutics, Synthace, Project Farma, GableGotwals, That's Nice, and Robinson Park.

Rocking Saturday for LA Family Housing
Run BMc has more than two decades of collective Law Rockin’ experience, including members of two different past champions. They are back to rock, roll, rap, dance, and funkify your minds. Not to be mistaken for your typical law-firm-charity-classic-rock-cover band, it discovered its musical destiny by covering artists like Run DMC, Tina Turner, Coldplay, Janis Joplin, Adele, Def Leppard, and Justin Timberlake. The band is known to bring sexy back, roll in the deep, and pour some sugar on you, while curing fevers with the only prescription – more cowbell.
With legal talent from Reed Smith; Constangy, Brooks, Smith & Prophete; Seals Phillips LLP
Rocking Saturday for LACBA Counsel for Justice
Inspired by the Rainbow Road setting on their Teslas (More Cowbell!!!), Down By Law has been rockin’ since 2016. Formed out of a desperation to convince their kids that they are cool, and inspired (in equal parts) by Jim Jarmusch, the Starlight Vocal Band, and Iggy Pop, DBL rocks to answer the eternal question: “Is she really going out with him?”

Trey is a survivor of 10 years in the Radio Industry during it final heyday. He was a music director and afternoon drive DJ at various stations throughout the midwest before being scooped up by MTV in the 90's because he kinda looked like Alan Hunter. It wasn't long after arriving in New York that Nirvana, ended Trey's MTV stint. Everyone was going grunge and he was unable to grow any facial hair. He moved on to other areas of the entertainment industry, but is proud of some of his past escapades, such as playing golf with Journey, drinking several gallons of beer with Brian Johnson of AC/DC, and being fired from "Friends" for saying something stupid to Jennifer Aniston. He is most proud of his former world record of Hot Tub Sitting (4 days at 105 degrees). He thanks his wife for being so patient when it came time to have children.
Shawn Dailey has been a professional touring and recording musician since the age of 17. Most recently he played bass for Courtney Love / Hole.
